The Fresh Show is Wrapping Up !

   I just wanted to write a little about my experience with the North Texas Fresh and The Fresh Show. For one I cannot believe that its almost over, its seems like just yesterday we started it but its been in production since July. Unlike my co-creator Erik this is by far the largest production that I have been apart of in terms of length and scope of work. Its been a incredible amount of fun but also a ton of work. Its taken some serious dedication to follow this through and many things have happen in me and Erik's personal life's since then but we wanted to see it through.
   If you do not know a lot about filmmaking or video production you should know that me and my co-producer essentially did the work what half a dozen or so people would normally be responsible for. So I would also like to pat ourselves and Jason Hampton,who did the camera work on episode 3, on the back. Looking back at the episodes I feel like the production values do not show how few people worked on it. But the real hero is my co-producer Erik Clapp who edited all the episodes and sifted to though nearly 3 hours worth of footage to compress into 10 minutes every episode. Not only did he follow through every time but he also found a way around any technical problem that we may run into even after the shoot.
   I would also like to thank The North Texas Fresh and Jay Bowdy for being so awesome. Very rarely would you get full access to a professional team like we did and Jay was nothing but cool about the entire thing.
    I was going to go through some of the process and things that happened episode by episode.

Episode 1
I cant make this shoot but Erik goes to the first tryout in Benbrook Tx. Shoots on his own.

Episode 2
This is were I think the overall story and tone starts to develop. The characters in the story become more defined. I would like to think you start to understand the crew on a more personal basis from this episode. The player roster isn't defined yet but you see some of the soon to be players.

Episode 3
I wasn't apart of this one. Jason Hampton and Erik both shoot. Its at this time you get to meet the players and JR Rider. I think this is probably the most recent video of him playing basketball. If you don't know who JR Rider is you should google him,

Episode 4
I am the proudest of this one. I filmed this one entirely on my own. This is the first home game of the North Texas Fresh and JR Rider. Erik said go get drama and I captured it and the very beginning in the famous training room speech that Jay gives the team. From this point on the overall feel of the series is defined. We also used more black and white effects, especially at the end when Jay is giving the post game talk. I think I might have captured the only interview that JR had in a Fresh uniform and it was icing on the cake for the story that he only played one game.

Episode 5
This is the "Empire Strikes Back" of the Fresh Show. Its easily the darkest, it shows how the players reacted to Jay Bowdy (CEO/Head Coach) putting a uniform on and getting out there with them. To be honest, we didn't really know what we had until Erik was half-way done with editing. I would say that because of the overall tone its the least like out of the bunch. I do like it because you start to know the players a little better and get an attachment to them. Maurice "Snoop" Willams starts to run away with the show, while AD becomes frustrated with the situation.

Episode 6
My second favorite. To be honest we were expecting a team from Houston to come in but the Arlington Bulldogs came instead. On one hand it wasn't that interesting because the Bulldogs had nothing on the Fresh. But since the Bulldogs were made up of X-Fresh players it was kinda interesting. This episode was intentionally more light, the last 2 episode were very serious and we also wanted to have a little fun. Snoop was built up to be the all-American basketball player type and then it just hits you in the face that he got let go because he was playing for the Arlington Bulldogs on the side after the game we shot. I also loved the "Dunk Montage" that mellow music combined with the slow motion dunks in sepia was great.

Episode 7

The Hurt Locker Review

I think its ridiculous that to see a great movie like The Hurt Locker you have to check every movie theater in a 50 mile area and hope you find one theater thats playing, while crap like G-Force a movie about secret government operative hamsters is showing on every screen every hour. Its not fair.
Besides that I can honestly say that The Hurt Locker is probably the best movie that I have seen all summer, I can honestly say that it held my attention the entire time. Being that is about a team of US bomb technicians it really makes things suspenseful in a disarm a bomb-race against the clock kinda way. Jeremy Renner plays the rebel bomb tech well as well as the other cast, its all very believable I would imagine in real life it probably play out the same way. If you can find it playing near you its defiantly worth checking out

I'm normally not a big fan of the midnight showings of new movies but I have seen 2 already in this month ,Transformers 2 and now the newest Harry Potter. Of course I didnt learn my lesson from Transformers about getting there before an hour before showtime so I got stuck at the very bottom...again.
Just to note this review isnt coming from someone who is a very big Potter fan or has seen all the movies in the series ( I haven't seen the first one) but I found out that it takes you about 15 minutes into anyone of the movies to make sense of it all because most of the other stories from the ones before dont really matter anyways. What annoys me the most about the movie is that when it starts going somewhere I like it changes and forgets what is was trying to establish. Is it a action movie..kinda, is it a love story...kinda, or maybe a kids movie.....this one not as much. Obviously the kids are a little older and with that the story goes a little darker which is good for the series but it just kinda dances around the true nature of what it really is about. The dark lord Voldemort is supposed to fight the chosen one Harry Potter in some kinda bad ass wizard battle royal or something. At least thats what I get from 12 hours worth of Harry Potter movie that I have seen . Its not like my review is going to stop anyone from going to see it that hasn't already and I dont want to stop you because your probably going to like it anyways. But for a non-Potter movie goer its probably not going to be worth sitting 3 feet in front of the screen in a crowded theater at midnight. I can say the only reason why I can still remember seeing this movie is because I am reminded everytime my neck starts hurting from staring straight up for 3 hours straight.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off
This is a John Hughes classic of a high school senior skipping class. The way he breaks the fourth wall makes the movie light hearted and always fun to watch.

Any Transporter movie
My theory on movies that get watched over and over again is that they are never to serious or long. Transporter movies for the most part make no sense and are over in about 90 minutes so it satisfies both categories.

Office Space
A comedy classic. Probably the only thing that I can think of with Ron Livingston in it besides Band of Brothers.

Mean Girls
Maybe because I used to like Lindsay Lohan alot or maybe because its the only good Lindsay Lohan movie or maybe both.

Bruno falls into that category of "you really like it or you really hate it". Just like his other movie "Borat", Sacha Baren Cohen creates controversy in the real world as a fictional character that he creates. As the gay Austrian Bruno, Cohen gets into some really crazy situations like a hunting trip in Alabama,a swingers party, and an African American talk show where he shows of his new African American baby named O.J. that he traded for an Ipod. Probably the best part is when he lures then Presidential Candidate Ron Paul into his hotel room and starts to undress and dance for him.
Bottom line is that it really pushes the boundries to the extreme of acceptable content of an R rated movie just like Borat. Its so extreme that it WILL offend some people as did many people in my theater. Go see it if you like Borat, you wont be disappointed.If you haven't and you still want to go see if consider yourself warned.

I think I am currently playing the most violent video game ever made. In fact its only second to horror porn movies in terms of amount of blood splattered. The 13 year old in me is digging it though. I will say that in terms of visuals its alot closer to art them some people would think. To bad the style is ripped from Sin City. Its cool anyways to rip through Varrigan City beating the crap out of people in funny ways for extra points. I really love the visual style but I wish the Wii's graphics were a bit sharper because sometimes it seems a little bit blurry and it would look that much more awesome in HD. The main hero "Jack" has some of the best one liners, as he finds a gang that is about to kill a doctor they ask Jack who he is and his reply "A fan of public health reform".

Resident Evil 5
So for the record I have played Resident Evil 0,Resident Evil (both the gamecube remakes),Resident Evil Code: Veronica,Resident Evil 4, and now Resident Evil 5. I can say that I am fully aware of the Resident Evil storyline, videogame plot anyways. So I was hoping that they would make alot of things makes sense and provide some sort of closure to the story that they have been working on for 15 years. Even though I go to finally kill the dark emporer of the series, Albert Wesker, I still feel like 5 really doesnt add onto the main story. A aspect that still bugs me. For some reason the last 2 games although good, dont really look back onto the earlier games that much. All that aside Resident Evil 5 doenst really try to scare as much as I would like. Maybe that because its in the daylight in Africa and not in a haunted mansion or a sleepy European villiage. Resident Evil was never about action it was about slow methodical planning and moving from one room to the next. 5 threw most of that through the window. Yeah they make you conserve ammo but I rarely died, in fact I died more from just stupid mistakes during the quicktime events than anything else.
All that being said it has some sweet graphics. Maybe not quite Gears of War but close. The enviromental effects are some of the best ever seen in a game. It always irks me when they put so much into the backgrounds and you never stop moving long enough to admire them. Anyways I would reccomend this to anyone who like killing zombie like things with a little bit of story thrown in, but it only takes about 12 hours to beat so maybe a rent would be a safe bet.

Ghostbusters
Now this is a game I was waiting for. Its basically Ghostbusters 3 but intead of film they chose xbox. Atari did a really good job bring you the Ghostbusters feel to you, all the actors, from the movies including Jenene and Pecker are in it. The graphics are among some of the best I have ever seen, they did an great job capturing the likenesses of the actors (you can even see the acne scars from Bill Murrays character.
What makes this game fun is the process in which you capture a ghost. Shoot,capture,and trap every ghost and its harder than you think to wrangle some of the faster ghosts and move them over to the trap. I bought it but thats only for a die hard ghostbuster fan. My one gripe like Resident Evil 5 is the length. Its about 10 hours long. Probably less if I didnt wander around as much as I did to catch all the Easter Eggs. At least worth a rent.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

I would like to go on record that about 95 percent of the time I go on RottenTomatoes.com I agree with the rating that a movie gets. For the most part the laws of average work even in the movie business. Then comes along a movie like Transformers:Revenge of the Fallen and makes me think that most reviewers are full of crap. Yes this movie is as loud and annoying as the first one but like I said before your watching a live action movie that is based off a cartoon that was based off a series of toys. Yeah I have a list of things that I dont like, its to long, there isnt as much character development as the first, Megan Fox is still in it just to look hot. But in the end do you think that is going to stop anyone from spending money to go see it ? Of course it isnt. You go to see if for the special effect,fight scenes,Megan Fox, and cool looking cars turn into killer robots that fight other killer robots.Its one fight scene after another and thats what people like to see including me. Going in the packed theater at 11am to sit and wait for another hour I relized that all the independent movies that I have seen,all the film appreciation classes in college say that this movie is shallow but I forgot all about that when Optimus Prime transformed midair after rolling out of a aircraft carrier. If anything its at least on par with the first one and dont let anyone tell you diffrent.

5.Counting Crows:Films About Ghosts
I am a sucker for best of albums and this is one of the bests. The thing is about Counting Crows is that most of the music hinges on about 3 different genres of music rolled into one. Sometimes its more rock and sometimes its more country. Either way its one of the best collections of music from one of my favorite bands. Its true they haven't made much of anything good lately but the 90's stuff sure does shine. Films About Ghosts makes it to the list because its about 20 songs that don't really get on your nerves. Sure everyone knows about Mr. Jones and me but have they listened to Mrs. Potter, one of the best 8 min songs that never really got any air time.

4. Team Fortress 2
Yeah there are alot of First-Person Shooter games on Xbox but how many really try to involve teamwork in the game. The teamwork aspect really sets it apart. I rarely play a game more than a month or 2 and I still regularly play Team Fortress 2 after almost 2 years.

3. Arrested Development Season 1-3
If you havent seen one of the smartest comedies on dvd,cable,hdnet,internet,etc your living under a rock. It made Micheal Ceras career and brought Jason Bateman back into the spotlight. Arrested Development asks alot from its viewers, it expects you to watch it from start to finish, every episode,season to season. Its only then that you really understand all the work that went into the continuity of the show. Plus its funny as hell! Go Tobias !

2. The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
Its a proven fact that white peopla love Wes Anderson and his movies. Yeah I like the dry sense of humour but I like Bill Murray even more. It has an awesome cast and the movie just grows on you and is great for repeated viewings.

1. The Adam Corolla Podcast
I still dont understand why I listen religiously to this. I loved him on Loveline, not because he gave any good advice to anyone, he actually prevented more callers getting through due to his ranting. Buts thats why you listen to him, his ranting. His common sense analogies are funny but only because its makes sense. True he doesnt have very good guests probably the best so far being George Tekei from Star Trek. But you dont really mind listeing to him talk to lesser know people like Polly Shore and Jack from "Jack in the Box" fame. On top of all that its absolutly free. I wonder how long it will stay that way ?

I wish I had more time or remember to actually update this on a regular basis but I have plenty of reviews !!

Star Trek
Probably the best of the May summer movies I have seen this far. The best part about this Star Trek is that you don't have to be familiar with the series but it keeps fanboys happy. I fall somewhere in the middle of the two and I was entertained the entire way through. I question some of the new cast members compared to the original series but after seeing the movie I think its better off they made some of the changes. I bet role jumpstarts Chris Pines career as Captain Kirk.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine
I have to first say that they should have just named this movie "Wolverine". If you are aware of Xmen you have to be aware of Wolverine. The thing that pisses me off about Wolverine is that it changes the story so much that it really makes you question if they should have just went off the story of the comic books which in my opinion is wayyy better.Wolverine and Sabertooth are not brothers and if they were dont you think it would have came up in the at least 1 of the 3 previous movies ? Duh I could go on and on about the development of the characters and the general timeline in which all the events happen. I also dont know what they where thinking in screwing up Deadpool , Ryan Reynolds character. Its a rent at best.

Angels and Demons
I thought about naming this part of the review National Treasure : Catholic Edition. Its like that but instead of American history is Roman Catholic history and it has Tom Hanks instead of Nick Cage. This is a spinoff/sequel to The Da Vinci Code which was marginaly better than this. It follows the same formula as the first movie. Someone gets killed,enter Tom Hanks, follow clues, etc. Probably worth a rent but I wouldnt spend 10 bucks on a ticket unless I was way bored.

Charlie Bartlett
I meant to see this in the theater but I never got around to it. I like the idea of the new student acting as a mental health doctor to his peers. Its an idea I dont think I have seen in a teen movie before. Then again most teens probably wont want to see this movie. Anton Yelchin (also in Star Trek) is a great actor with a great future. I think that the supporting actors really add alot to the movie ie Robert Downey Jr. as the principal. Honestly I could have used alot more Robert Downey Jr and little less of the love intrest Kat Dennings. It was a little hard to get into at first but overall a great movie.

Everyone needs to checkout the demo for one of the greatest independent video games I have ever played. Its called Braid, and you truley just have to play it to appreciate the greatness.

MEGA AWESOME SUPER MOVIE REVIEW ROUND-UP

Ok honestly I have seen way to many movies lately (I love you Netflix) to really go into great detail about every movie I have seen. I have been to a few movies as well.

Observe and Report
Like Adventureland this movie was marketed like the next 40-year-old virgin or Old School and it was actually a dark comedy where the only funny parts are in the commercials. Not that its a bad movie but its way different than most Seth Rogan movies that he is the same character over and over again. Go see it but expect to be suprised by the darker sides of Seth Rogan.

Crank: High Voltage
If the first Crank didnt excite you then this one wont make you feel any different. If you enjoy stupid violence and Jason Statham and annoying editing and camerawork you will love it. Let me make one thing clear, there is nothing wrong with like a stupid action movie, or horror movie or anything else, it just makes your demographic that much smaller. So with saying that I like this movie, yeah the idea of someone ripping Jason Stathams heart out he has to recharge his artificial heart by jumping it off with a car is dumb but then again a movie that was based off of a toy that transformened into a killer robot then back to a car was one of the top grossing movies of 2007.

The Wrestler
Mickey Rourke is creepy. Because of that he was that much more intresting in his 80s thrasher glory that is the Ram. I like the idea of a movie that is based off of a washed up wrestler that is not on VH1. Its cool and every minute is well done, even though I wasnt a huge fan of the documentary style photography (following him from behind while he is walking). I loved it when he has to work in the supermarket deli.

Body of Lies
Im so tired of Ridley Scott. Leonardo Dicaprio is great. Russell Crow is great. The whole vehicle that transported them sucked. I like political movies, maybe not my favorite drama but the fact that Russel Crows role is pretty much pointless pisses me off when I try to get so invested in the film, I hate that. Its long and boring.

The Darjeeling Limited
Wes Anderson is a hard director to nail down. But no matter what movie i see of his I can agree on a few things.
1)Bill Murray and Owen Wilson where somewhere in it
2)Every scene has a least 4 or 5 really bright colors in it
3)I want to google the soundtrack and try to find that one track I thought was cool
4)I dont know exactly what I saw and how it all goes together, but I enjoyed every minute.
This movie was no exception

The Assasination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
Not only does this movie have the longest title ever but it also turnes one of the most legendary bad ass train robber tales into the slowest documentary style movie about him with one of the best casts to pull off a action-western movie. I also just wrote the longest run-on sentance ever as well. I liked it but in a 2 hour biography channel kinda way.

Changeling
I think director Clint Eastwood is great. Even though its more traditional story telling its done the best when Clint does it. This is probably Angelina's best role as the mother of a kid-napped kid in 1920s Los Angelas. Probably the most riveting of all the 2 and a half hour movies that I have seen.

Adventureland
The people who marketed this movie either succeeded in tricking people into thinking Adventureland was the next Superbad or neglected to tell people it was primarily a coming of age drama. After getting past the fact that it didn't have many laughs in it I enjoyed the movie. Its more like a semi-autobiographical movie about director Greg Motollas college summer working as a games guy at an amuesment park. Like I said its more like a drama with some comedy thrown in. Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig are still as funny hell, it also has Kristen Stewart from Twilight (my next review)and Ryan Reynolds. Jesse Eisenberg who plays James Brennen the main character was kinda boring, hes kinda like an unfunny Micheal Cera. Its a good rent if anything.

Twilight
Its ok, just ok kinda like a teen drama with androgynous looking vampires. More teen drama than anything. This is based off of a series of books, I think the inevitable sequels will probably be as addictive as Lord of the Rings or the Spiderman movies. Its worth a rent but it has its share of teen drama, I can admit I did roll my eyes a few times. Its well made and the dull blue colors hue of the entire movie is intresting. I cant say that I've seen a highschool girl meets immortal vampire movie before.

Super Movie Review: I Love You Man,Role Models,The Fist Foot Way

Sorry,Ive been watching a lot of movies lately and haven't been posting any reviews on them.

I Love You Man
This is probably my most looked forward to movie since after the long post Christmas movie season of sucky movies. This is the first of two Paul Rudd movies that I have seen recently. If you haven't read anything about it, its about a guy who is about to get married(Paul Rudd) who needs to find a best man for his wedding. It has some great laughs, it plays out like a typical Judd Apatow movie. The problem is that Paul Rudd isnt really funny enough to carry on as a leading role. Any scene with Jason Seagel is why you see the movie. I wanted to see an entire movie with Paul Rudd and Jason Seagel but you usually get Paul and his fiance or whoever else. The other parts just arent that funny.

Role Models
Probably the funniest movie I have sean in awhile. Yes it has some of the same problems as "I Love You Man" but it has alot of more supporting cast to really make it funny. Has some really good moments with Sean William Scott and the 2 kids, including McLovin. Kinda fell apart at the end and I really didn't care so much for the finale but whatever. Its not like its that smart of a movie anyways.

The Foot Fist Way
I love Danny McBride. Its cheap, like all the lighting is flat and the video quality looks like it was shot on the Super-VHS camera I used to shot high school football with. Regardless its funny, way funny. Especially the beginning of the movie where it sets him up as the Tai Kwon Do instructor. Its coproduced by Will Ferrell so you get what kind of humour your in for.

Adam Corollas Podcast is Awesome !!

As a teenager I like to listen to Loveline. For the your people out there who dont know what that is it was a MTV show/Radio show that featured call ins and Adam Corolla and Dr. Drew would respond. I never really cared for the TV show but the last couple years of the radio show Adam Corolla was easily the funniest thing ever !! Maybe you get the humour maybe you dont but its easily one of my most favorite things to do while playing video games ( the days before you made your own soundtracks on xbox). Then when he left Loveline and hosted the radio show in LA I never got around to listening to him. I thought I may never listen to his comedy again until I stumbled upon his podcast. Which is 1 trillion times better than any other form of Adam Corolla comedy to date. No commercials, listen anytime you want, and free. Check it out, according to him he is going on like 2.4 million downloads.

Mac vs. PC

So I have had a mac for about a month now and I think I have had enough exposure to answer the question alot of people have been asking me. Which is better Mac or PC. Now I am sure everyone will have a different opinion on this so I am just going to break it down in different categories.

Overall System Stability
This is the easiest. Mac hands down. It runs way better and smoother, it takes virtually no time to boot up and can run more programs on less system resources. I am absolutely amazed that I haven't had to reboot or restart or simply turn off this computer in a month. No way in hell that would happen on a PC.

Features
Mac wins again. Photobooth, iLife 09 suite and alot of other stuff that came free. Yeah you get free stuff on a PC but its usually worthless trash that hogs system resources.

Business
I cant lie. When it comes to regular things like word processing or spreadsheets, a windows machine has alot more. Yes I got Office for Mac which made the diffrence but it didnt come with it. Textedit isnt something that alot of people use.

Cost
The reason why I bought a computer was for video editing so I needed a pretty good computer to run my programs effeciently. I could have still got a pretty decent pc with theoritical better specs for about 30 percent less.

Video Editing
I learned video editing on a pc. Not the most popular platform in the industry I know, but Adobe Preimer is a great program which I have no more complaints on than Final Cut Pro. Why is Final Cut more popular than Premier ? Mac runs smoother period.

Apple makes a way awesome machine with even better software. For most people a mac would last them alot longer than a pc and even less software headaches. That being said I cant do alot of things like play computer games, and some business applications. As much as a mac costs you could almost buy to pcs in most cases so for the person that just wants to surf the web, and so forth I wouldnt see the point. I guess nobody wins just thought I would share my opinions.

Watchmen

I can definitely say this is the anti-superhero superhero movie. There was alot of hype and anticipation leading up to this movie and I was all in on it even though I never actually read the graphic novel. So I am not even going to even bother trying to compare it to its source material. Anyways it doesnt really matter Watchmen is one of the best superhero movies to date which in my opinion comes close to the genious of the Dark Knight or Iron Man. But either of those movies comes even close to touching on the issues that the Watchmen does. Its very hard to explain what this movie is about, at its heart it starts out as a murder mystery. The movie starts with one of the heros "the comedian" getting thrown out of a window. While the first half of the movie is used to not only progress the story it explains all the characters background very well. The problem with the movie is the quality of the first half doesnt quite match the quality of the second half. What I mean is that the finale felt rushed and somethings could have been explained better. Visually this movie is great, the cinematography was great and it had a great visual continuity like "300" did. I also think that even though Watchmen didnt have any big names you couldnt have picked better actors. With the almost 3 hour long run time I bet this film will be just as popular on DVD/BluRay as it is in theaters. In the end go see it but forget any preconcieved ideas you have before going in to the theater.

While most people used pictures to describe something I took lots of pictures with my crappy digital camera to tell a completely diffrent story about Wes Tucker. Best fighting game ever ! Thats all I can say ,there is enough new stuff and updated graphics to make it feel new , but keeping with the traditional mechanics of 20 years of Street Fighter to make you feel familiar. I can go on and on but its going to stay in my Xbox for awhile.
There is one problem with the Street Fighter experience, the standard Xbox controller isnt very good for fighting games. Mainly the Dpad is uncomfortable. So you will need to invest in one of the controllers made for this game. I recommend the standard 39.99 control pad. It is wired but the cord is plenty long, so it makes for a retro experience.

Holy crap this movie caught me off guard ! The reviewers haven't been kind to Taken, but I can vouch thats its worth seeing. True it may seem a bit predictable at times but its kinda like the Transporter if only Jason Statham was older and a bit more smooth in his action. I cant really say I have been a fan of Liam Neison but he delivers in a believable ex-CIA role. Taken went the smart way, if the script isnt that deep, dont make it too long Those crazy Armanian sex trafficers picked the wrong girl to kidnap.

So the trailer for Crank 2 : High Voltage has been out for awhile but I never got around putting it up on the blog. If you havent seen the first one go see it, if you like way stupid action movies this one will satisfy you. Basically Jason Statham has to keep moving to keep his adrenaline going otherwise he will die due to the poison that will make his heart quit pumping. Its like the move Speed but instead of without a bus, and instead of Keanu Reaves you have Jason Statham picking fights with random people to keep going. Also for some reason it has country singer Dwight Yoakam as his buddy.

Also principle photography has started on "The Expendables" Sylvester Stallone's new action flick about a group of mercenaries from all parts of the globe to infiltrate a South American warlord. Stars Jason Statham, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Forest Whitiker,Ben Kingsley , Randy Couture, and Dolph Lundgren. Oh my !

Land of the Lost

I really dont like this time of year when it comes to movies. So I can either watch really crappy movies, which is about the only thing that has been coming out lately, or I can watch trailers for upcoming movies and enjoy some Xbox Live. I have not seen very many of the original Land of the Lost TV shows, but I do remember how cheesy it is so when I heard they were making a movie I didn't think much of it. But the trailer makes me think it will be funny. Mainly with Will Ferrells involvment.

What I am also excited about is that it has this guy in it.
Danny Mcbride was the explosives dude in Tropic Thunder, the jealous brother in The Heartbreak Kid. Arguably he is the best character in both of those movies.

Favorite Things of 2008

Sorry its been awhile since I last updated. I may be a little late but I wanted to list some of my favorite media of 2008, including movies,video games, and movies.

Jason Mraz : We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things.
I always dug Jason easy listening lite rock with some rapping thrown into it but I never thought he was going to be anything big until this album came out. The entire album is great start to finish. I really like the optional acoustic tracks you can get on Itunes. Dynamo of Volition is my personal favorite. The track with Colbie Calliat is pretty good to.

Ryan Adams & the Cardinals: Cardinology
You just cant beat Ryan Adams. Is it Rock, is it Country, is it Progressive Alternative ? I cant even tell anymore but he consistently puts out great records. Like I said before he puts out 2-3 albums a year and the quality of the work seems to just get better.Magik is my favorite of all the tracks followed by Sink Ship.

City and Colour : Bring Me Your Love
I wrote a blog about how awesome it was to see this guy in concert and everyone that I show this guy to is an instant fan. I will admit this one isn't quite as good as his first record, Sometimes. But its still a great listen. Again he probably has one of the best voices out there in musicland right now. I cant say he sings the most uplifting music ever but he provides the best music for a rainy day.

Iron Man
I like the Dark Knight I really did but not as much as Iron Man, there I said it. I am a Marvel Comics guy so seeing Iron Man on the big screen was awesome for me. I don't think anyone could play Tony Stark aka Iron Man any better than Robert Downey Jr. did. The film took Iron Man somewhat seriously but not to the extreme like the Dark Knight did. I think thats why I liked it so much as it didnt take itself too seriously. It did what the Spider-Man movies did, It kept it more about the characters like Tony Stark and Pepper Potts and not a bunch of fight scenes. In the end the personal relationships were more intresting than all the CGI combined.

Quantum Of Solace
Daniel Craig is 100 times the bad ass than all the other James Bond actors combined. This was a continuation of Casino Royale, but Quantum of Solace takes it to the next level with all the action. Its pretty close to start to end action but to be fair its a tad shorter than most Bond films its about 2 hours unlike the usual 2.5 hours. But thats not really a bad thing.

Mass Effect
We all know that video games try to make you feel like your in the game and its interactive and your supposed to put yourself into it. I never really felt that way about a game until I played Mass Effect. Your commander Sherpard and your in charge of a intergalactic investigation on one of your own members of the Spectres, a kinda James Bond in outer space.The characters are super developed for a game, since you care so much about them its hard to decide if there going to be the one that has to stay on the surface and defuse a bomb and risk not coming back home. Or you could just not do anything and let the planet blow up in a nuclear reaction. Its your decision on where to go and what to do. I dont think it got the kind of attention it deserved.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Most of the time before I watch a movie I read reviews or maybe I just read more about it on Rotten Tomatoes.com. With this movie I didn't, mainly because I didn't have the time but I also wanted to try and not fill my heads with opinions about it before watching. But this movie really caught me off guard. The idea of someone that lives there life in reverse probably isn't any thing original but man this movie kept my intrest for the entire 3 hour run time. Yeah its that long and honestly if I knew it was that long I may not have seen it. I dont think I ever considered Brad Pitt a awesome actor but how he acts without words in this movie may make me change my mind. Cate Blanchett is great as well providing most of the later part of the story. Telling you any more about the story would ruin it even though you might already have a pretty good idea what happens. You wouldnt ever guess how it happens though. Definitly worth the price of a regular ticket

Yes Man

If the idea of anything Jim Carrey excites you now in 2008 as it did in 1994 this movie will entertain you. If you moved on in your comedy interests as I did you will probably think you have seen this movie before. Yes Man follows a Jim Carrey as he changes his life by simply saying "yes" to everything. The laughs come at about when you expect it. Other than Carrey there isnt much to talk about as far as actors, its has the mustache dude from "That Seventies Show" and the rich fiancee from "the Wedding Crashers". Thats about all the impression they left on me since I didnt even bother looking up names.The one scene I like was when he sings "Jumper" by Third Eye Blind to a man that was about jump from a ledge,while a few scenes before he signs up on a whim to take the guitar lessons. Maybe because I grew up watching him in Dumb and Dumber and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective that I thought this was way less funny than my 15 year old cousin.

Marley and Me

Now this is the movie of the holiday season. I really hate alot of family movies because they seem to be too kid oriented for its own good, but this movie kept me and my fiancee entertained the whole way through. Marley and Me follows Owen Wilson and Jennifer Anistons trials with the worlds worst dog. There is plenty of dog stuff in the movie but in the end its how the dog Marley brings the newlyweds and his family that he soon gets together. Wilson and Aniston bring enough to the screen to make you care about them without fighting for it. They dont try to hard to get your attention and that seems like a tough thing to do in family movies these days. Marley and Me is well worth the price of admission .

Valkyrie

I had pretty high expectations from Valkyrie. Being somewhat of a fan of Tom Cruise and a super humongous fan of director Bryan Singer (X-men movie series, televisions "House") I was expecting a lot. X-men 2 is what I consider one of the best super-hero moves of all time because the perfect amount of action and storytelling. That's what I was expecting from Valkyrie, Tom Cruise tries to play a bad ass every chance he gets and Bryan Singer would tie it all together. Not really, what we get is 2 hours of politics and wartime policies with a couple of "suspenseful" moments.This WWII movie just doesnt really deliver any depth other than delivering facts to progress the story. Yes its quite remarkable how this group of Germans re-wrote Adolf Hitlers contigency plan if ever he were to be assasinated, and how they tried to kill Der Furher of Germany. This story would be a better documentary than movie. Its just not character driven enough to get you to care about the protagonist like you did on Shindlers List or any other WWII movie. If your into this kinda thing you will probably like this movie, but if history isn't your thing I would probably pass on it or catch it on DVD or something.

Chris Cornell has Jumped the Shark........................NOW

Let me make one thing straight, I like early 90's rock music more than just about any other type of music. That means grudge. Unfortunately there just really isn't any more music like that being made anymore. But my one last artist to cling on to was Chris Cornell. Chris is the man, he was in SoundGarden, AudioSlave, and has had a pretty decent solo career. He has some of the best range of any vocalist out there regardless of genre. One thing that sets him apart is that after all these years he somewhat stays relevant and different while keeping his same sound that made him popular.
After almost 2 decades of music what does every other struggling artist do...turn to Timbaland.
Come on man I thought you were better than this. I respect that you want to try different things but come on you rocked out for like 20 years. Check this out.....

They actually say they had no idea what they were going to produce and they had no plan on what to do. Thats about what the first couple singles sound like, a bunch of nothing.

Why the New Wolverine Movie will Suck.

I can say for sure that if any super-hero team can represent my generation it has to by Wolverine and the X-men. Between the comic books and the way too mature cartoon on Saturday mornings I consider myself somewhat of an expert on the subject matter. I can surely say that the producers of Xmen Origins: Wolverine ( stupid title by the way) have it all wrong. Its true that if you are going to make a back story of any mutant it would have to be Wolverine, considering its the most interesting and thought out. But Fox is taking this way to far. Watch the trailer, its hilarious, I didn't know that Wolverine was in the battle of Normandy. I also really like the last scene where he fly's up to a helicopter. I like the idea of introducing the new characters, I really wanted to see a on screen Gambit and Deadpool. I will be surprised if its better than X-Men 3 and that's not saying much.

Anyone who follows this blog probably knows that I have an unhealthy obsession with Jason Statham. So I don't know if I can give a unbiased opinion on this movie. Of course I liked it, but maybe not as much as the first two. They did manage to add more dialogue for Jason but in the end it doesn't really matter because the story makes little sense to begin with. One thing that is improved is the quality and believability in the stunts. A few of the stunts in the last movie made me roll my eyes. But if your going into this movie expecting anything more than action your going to be disappointed. If your into action do yourself and see this film, if your not stay home.

Xbox360 < Nintendo Wii

I am pretty frustrated right now because I was really excited to play all the new cool games coming out on my Xbox 360. To bad 2 days ago I went to turn it on and I got the 3 Red Rings of Death. It pretty much means that it had a massive hardware failure. Cant say I wasn't expecting it since just about every other Xbox owner goes through the same thing.
But at least I can say I have been getting acquainted with my Wii (no pun intended). Downloaded Super Mario RPG that was originally for the Super Nintendo and some Super Smash Brothers Brawl. I also looked for some new games for it and I found this game called MadWorld, it seems like a combination of Sin City and about 30 other violent video games. Check it out.

A Look Back on My CD Collection : The Good,The Bad, and The Ugly

I think most people can listen to some music and relate back to wherever they where in their life at that time. I know I do, so i decided to share with you some of my favorite and some regrettable pieces of my CD collection. I have decided to omit anything that is recent within the past couple years.

Aerosmith: Big Ones
This is arguably the best contemporary Aerosmith album. I like the old school Aerosmith but this was a "Greatest Hits" record that didn't feel like it. Tracks like "Dude Looks Like a Lady" and "Love in an Elevator" are awesome to jam out to. But it also has "Angel" and "What it Takes" to balance it out. I think it was my most listened to CD up untill high school. If anything you should listen to it to hear Steven Tyler make crazy words up and yell them at the top of his lungs.

Alice In Chains : Unplugged
This is wear I really start exploring different styles of music. I still really like the early grunge era of music. Alice In Chains,Sound Garden, Pearl Jam where always favorites of mine but the all acoustic version of some of my favorite Alice In Chains songs kept this in my CD player for the better part of my freshman and sophmore years of high school. Some of this music got a bad rap for being to dark, but the unplugged versions of the songs truly showed people how talented these guys were. My favorites are "Heaven Beside You Hell Within" and "No Excuses".

John Mayor: Room For Squares
I think if you asked John Mayor now about this album he would deny that he ever made this. Compared to his most recent albums, Room For Squares is way to light and happy for his style now. It was a good CD at the time.But like him, I prefer the more mature sound of his music on his latest CD's. This CD got a lot of play when I started driving at 16. "No Such Thing" was definitely over-produced lead track but tracks like "Neon" and "Why Georgia" showcased his talents way better.

Audioslave
I think I picked this up on a whim during my senior year of high school.I knew about it but I just didnt believe these guys could pull this kind of thing off. Needless to say this IS the best Audioslave album and my opinion the best work of Chris Cornell's career. The vocals of Chris Cornell was awesome, and the crazy guitar solos from the guys from Rage Against the Machine made this the band mash-up you could only dream about. I wish I could reccomend the 2 other Audioslave CDs but you can tell there where some creative discrepencies while making it and thats why they broke up last year.Of course if your not a big fan of Chris Cornell or famously known as the lead singer from SoundGarden, or the musical stylings of Rage Against the Machine you wont like it. You at least have to try "Shadow on the Sun" its the best.

3 Doors Down: The Better Life
Dont act you like didnt have this CD. "Kryptonite" and "Loser" where the only good songs on the CD but this was the days before Itunes, so you probably bought the whole thing and acted like you liked the other songs because you spent 14.99 on it. These dudes have made a new CD almost every year since then and they keep getting worse than the one before it. But I wore the hell out of those tracks.

Incubus: Morning View
The first 2 albums of theirs was good, it was a harder kinda rap-rock that was popular at the time but when they made "Morning View" they kinda reinvented thereselves. It still kinda has that sound to it but they slowed down the tempo and made lyrics that actually made sense. "Wish You Where Here" and "Are you In ?" are among the best. If you still havent checked them out listen to this CD first and go from there.

Ryan Adams: Love is Hell
This is probably the most recent of my picks. This one came out in 2004 and I think I got it in 2005. I heard the cover of "Wonderwall" and I immediantly wanted that song so I went ahead and picked up the entire CD and still remains as one of my all-time favorites. People have labled Ryan Adams as Alternative Country and I kinda agree at times. Ryan Adams likes to just play music, it shows. He releases more music than any other artist that I have ever seen. In 2005 alone he relesed 3 albums, In 2007 he released 2 and he is about to drop on on the 28th of this month. Besides "Wonderwall" , I really liked "Shadowlands" and "City Rain,City Streets".

You would think the current financial crisis people would cut back on excess spending including movies. But for the second week in a row Beverly Hills Chihuahua is the #1 movie in America. Again beating the new Ridley Scott movie "Body of Lies" with Leonardo DiCaprio and Russel Crow, it also beat out the new horror flick "Quarantine". I hope pre-teen kids don't have this much disposable income, otherwise we may see more talking dog movies...

People complain about the lack of good movies sometimes but when the number 1 movie for the weekend is Beverly Hills Chihuahua with 29 million dollars I cant help to think of the deterioration of society. Its not like any good movies came out. I can recommend Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and the the new western Appaloosa has gotten some great reviews. Together these 2 movies didn't even do half of what the chihuahua movie made. Give me a break. This is your number 1 movie in America people. I hope you are all proud of yourselves!!!

Before I review this movie I need to admit that I am a big fan of Michael Cera, the guy who plays Nick in the story. Yes I loved him in Superbad but if you haven't seen him in Arrested Development,the short lived tv series on Fox you don't know how funny he is. Yes I know that he plays the same character in every movie but its funny anyways. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist is more of a love story for the Ipod generation, hence the title. It follows Nick played by Michael Cera and Norah played by Kat Dennings, that find each other during a sleepless night in New York while they try to find their favorite band "Where's Fluffy?". I was really expecting alot of musical performances but aside from a few brief scenes there werent any. What makes Nick and Norah's diffrent than other love storys is that both of them are basically still hung up on there counterparts from the previous relationships. Each of them hesitate to capatilize on the relationship with one anyother in fear that their ex's will take them back. I really hesitate to call this a love story because if more or less feels like a comedy more than anything else. If you are familiar with Arrested Development you are going to be familiar with the kind of humour this movie has, it doesn't exactly hit you over the head. It's Cera's dry sense of humour that makes you pay attention when he gets on screen.The story is filled with the bandmates of Nick's band "The Jerkoffs" and Norah's drunk friend that they chase around all night along. I felt that this movie is worth the price of admission if you enjoyed the humour of Superbad or any of the recent Judd Apatow movies. It just doesnt use throw the F bomb around as much. I would maybe call it the recently relased on DVD, Forgetting Sarah Marshall-Light.

The Future of Digital Distribution

I was reading a blog from my boss/mentor Eric Clapp about collecting movies, you can read this here. But as I was thinking about how much of a hobby collecting movies is to some people, I can't help but think that someday going to the store and buying physical media such as DVD/CD's may be replaced one day. The idea of downloading media is not new, I was downloading music off of Napster when I was 16. But technology has improved so much since then that now I have Itunes,Xbox Marketplace, and the Nintendo Shop to spend my money on and I never have to leave the house. I find that this method of delivery is usually more convientient for me. I still buy movies because its generally cheaper and easier. But I can still download a standard res. version of most movies off of Xbox Marketplace, as long as I dont mind leaving my Xbox on overnight.Some people prefer to buy there media at a brink and mortar store because its tangible, but do you really have the digital information that stored on that disk anyways? Most online services offer a way to redownload games,music,video even if a hardware failure occurs anyways. The only reason why the DVD section at your local Best Buy hasn't shrunk like the CD department has is because the size of video is so large that its just not convienient enough for most people to download something for half a day. Once they have the compression technology available to decrease the size of high-def video down and have the quality the same I think ordinary people will jump on the band-wagon. Apple has already made a compression technology called ProRES that dramatically reduces file sizes of HD video .
As a fiscal stand-point I think it makes alot more sense for production companies to support this method of product delivery. It puts more money in their pockets by cutting out the middle man. The video game companies have found tremendous growth by doing this lesser known games can be put out without the added costs of packaging or marketing. People may complain that Itunes may not have their favorite mainstream artist available but plenty of good lesser known bands can gain popularity by releasing on the Apple service that would have not been able to before.

#1: Legend Of Zelda : Ocarina of TimeThis probably wasn't a very big surprise to anyone seeing that this game is on everyone elses favorites list.This was the game that decided what an epic video game was going to be about. The game followed Link (or whatever else you wanted to name him because it didn't matter anyways) in his quest to rid the land of Hyrule from Ganon an evil sorcerer from the games desert lands. You started as young kid and by the end of the game you were a adult with all the skills. In 1998 that was some thinking outside the box.This game came up with the perfect formula for gameplay, it had just the right amounts of action,adventure,and puzzles at just the right places to keep the game going but not to fast. For most of the game you were in some sort of dungeon trying to fight past it, most people tolerated this or maybe even enjoyed the puzzle nature of it. For me the fun was when you were traveling the land on your horse discovering places like the Gerudo Desert or Death Mountains. This was the first game that actually had some exploring to it that you actually wanted to see everything that it offered. People may argue what the best Zelda game is since its part of a franchise and maybe some of the recent ones have actually been better but nothing actually captured my attention like this game did.

City and Colour

Friday night I went to see City and Colour at the House of Blues in Dallas, and I went away very happy. For those of you who don't know who City and Colour is see below for a video of one of his best songs. Its made up of singer/songwriter Dallas Green (get it). It was standing room only but I really dug the intimate setting of the concert. It was one of the only bands that actually sound like the cd. I would almost go as far as saying he has one of the best voices in music today.

The trailer for Transporter 3 has been out for awhile but its mainly been overseas version (French). I did run across a high quality English version.So enjoy some of the Jason Statham goodness !!

#2: Street Fighter II
Lets be real here. If you were born in the 90's you probably have no real clue as to what made this game so great. Street Fighter II was the first game I ever owned along with my Super Nintendo. I had countless hours of fun playing this game over and over and over. It didnt matter if it was computer but having someone to play against was revolutionary. We take this for granted now with our online systems and such but nothing feels better than to talk trash face to face with someone who is sitting right next to you. Of course this game is about fighting but unlike Mortal Kombat that came later it wasn't about excessive violence it was about out smarting your opponent. Every move has a counter for it. Its basically a big game of paper,rock,scissors if you take it to its simplest of forms. I really enjoy my Wii and all the great games it has to offer but its basically a 250 dollar Street Fighter II console. Its that good that I still enjoy it 17 years later.

Let me say this first before I go any farther. If you like Dane Cook you will love this movie. If you do not you will hate it. Lets be honest Dane Cook has NEVER made a good movie and this movie will not turn his streak around. Will there ever be a vehicle that will showcase Dane Cooks talent ? Probably not. That being said I went in to this movie with lower than low expectations. Like worst movie of the year expectations.....and I was somewhat wrong. At least for the first half of the movie I was wrong. The idea of the movie is that guys that have gotten dumped hire Dane Cook to date their ex-girlfriends and he takes them on the worst date of their lives and the idea is that they wind up back with the ex-boyfriends. Yes it is a little of a stretch but I believed that a semi-truck could transform into a robot and save the world from other killer robots. Jason Biggs is in it and I haven't seen him since the American Pie movies, and what mediocre romantic comedy would be complete without Kate Hudson. I really did enjoy the first half of the movie but the second half forgets everything that made the movie cool and different in the first place and takes the easy romantic comedy route and does everything by the books.....boring.

Burn After Reading

I had high hopes for Burn After Reading, it has an all star cast with Clooney,Pitt,McDormand. It has some of the best movie makers behind it, the Cohen brothers ( O' Brother Were art Thou ?,No Country for Old Men). How could it be bad ? I wouldn't go as to say its bad but its just mediocre for this caliber of people involved in this project. Yes, I get the movie, I just didn't get into it as much as I was hoping to. Basically Burn After Reading is a series of unfortunate coincidence's that mislead the other players in this game of espionage. It all starts when Brad Pitt finds a disc of information from an ex-cia agent. There are enough players in this game that keeps it going back and forth without the others knowing about it. It just really never goes anywhere with any of it. I would suggest a rent or catch it some
other way after its released.

I wish I was someone who had more time to watch TV but unfortunately I don't but I do have a few favorites...

Reaper
This was really one of the only new shows that I really dug last season. Its about a kid who's parents sold his soul to the devil before he was born and on his 21 birthday he had to start being the Devils bounty hunter. Most of the show is about Sam and his buddy's trying to capture escaped demons from hell. It all sounds kinda lame in retrospect but it has a kinda Ghostbusters kinda charm to it. In fact it has Kevin Smith as a director for the pilot episode. The best part of the show is the "Devil" played by the brilliant Ray Wise. Hes not a mean kinda devil he just tries to be a friend.

30 Rock

If you havent seen 30 rock yet your missing some of the best comedy on TV. Its basically a sitcom version of the behind the scenes of Saturday Night Live. It has Tina Fey as writer/actress, Tracy Morgan as Tracy Jordan, and Alec Baldwin playing the executive for NBC and GE that's in charge of programming and microwave ovens. Yes its very funny but its the smart kinda funny that you have to really dedicate some attention to or the jokes will fly past you. Plus the rest of the ensemble cast is pretty funny as well. Tina Fey is an ok actress but its her writing that really shines, she comes up with some really funny jokes that are pretty witty. Speaking of Tina Fey, but am I the only one who notices that similarities between her and the Republican Vice President hopeful Sarah Palin ?

#3: Metal Gear Solid:Snake Eater

I really,really like all the Metal Gear Solid games but this one stuck with me as the most fun and definitely the most memorable. Most of the Metal Gear Solid series is set in present time and it follows a super secret agent named Solid Snake. Solid Snake is the son of Big Boss a man that eventually became a traitor to the U.S. after being a soldier himself. This game is a prequel to the other games, its about the legendary soldier who is the father of Solid Snake, otherwise known as plain old Big Boss. The story get very complicated but is easy to follow as long as you pay attention, and unlike most games the story is what is worth picking up the game in the first place. Snake is sent to Russia to confront his one time ally (known as Big Boss throughout this game) that has defected to a group of Russian terrorists.

Anyways the story is everything in this game. Anyone who says a video game will never reach the same entertainment and art level as a movie needs to play through this game. Its true you will either love or hate this game. It may take somewhere between 12-16 hours to play through the game and you will spend almost half of it watching cinematics.This for some is a big turn off to watch more than play but its so well done that you will want more if your a movie fan. The graphics are great, and the voice acting is some of the best voice acting in any video game I have ever seen. I could talk and talk about how much impact this game can have on you but I suggest you watch the ending cinematic to appreciate it. Of course its a mega-spoiler but if you were going to play if you probably would have already so enjoy!!

College

Wow. I can say that I didn't have very high expectations from this movie when I went to see it and I was still let down. The first sentence of the movie synopsis goes as follows:

"an outrageous new comedy that follows in the classic footsteps of Animal House, American Pie , and Old School"

The thing is this movie tries to rip all of those movies off as well as "Super Bad" and doesn't succeed in any of them. Its like if a mediocre versions of the kids in Super Bad were to play in a watered down American Pie script and tried to reenact the story of Animal House. I find very few movies that I just can't stand. I was the only one in the theater on a Saturday night, if that gives you any idea. Avoid at all costs.

#4: Resident Evil (Gamecube Remake)

I would have to say that I am a pretty big Nintendo follower, I have had every system since the Super Nintendo. That being said the Gamecube sucked. I never quite got the big problem the graphics were marginally better than PlayStation 2 and could easily hold its own with the Xbox. But it never had any good games outside of Nintendo's own games and a few exceptions, the Resident Evil series being that exception.

This game basically scared the crap out of me on a regular basis. People rip on Resident Evil for being cheesy and having bad controls but most of it was fixed with this 2001 remake on the Gamecube (it was originally released for the PlayStation in 1996).

The games starts out with a police task force goes to investigate a helicopter crash from the task force that was sent before them. When they arrive they are chased by rabid zombie dogs into a mansion that turns out to be a research center for the evil biochemical corporation known as "Umbrella". Of course the entire mansion is infected with there latest creation known as the "T-Virus" that turns people and animals into flesh eating zombies.

What made this game so great at the time was the graphics that really suck you in. The backgrounds are basically just high quality stills that the character models just walk around on. Yes there may not seem like a lot of interaction there but I never cared the pre-rendered backgrounds looked amazing. Being that the camera doesn't move around you while your playing it makes you just a little bit scared when the action is in the background and not directly in front of you, its all part of the genius that Resident Evil is. Yes it does have some cheap scares, like when you drain an old bathtubes water and a zombie is lying under the dirty water. But it mostly scares you because of the tension it creates. Its not that you go around blowing stuff up, its surving the mansion. Your pretty limited in your ammunition so you have to be smart and on your toes, sometimes running is a better option.

Everything about this game is well done. Great graphics, awesome audio, and good storyline that keeps you guessing whats on the other side of the door. It lasts about 25 hours almost a perfect length.

People who know me best know that I love movies but video games are a close second for me. I will admit that I don't have as much time to play them as I used to, but when its time to wind down for the evening I will turn the Xbox 360 on or even the Wii.I am judging these games based on fun,creativeness,art direction, and general lasting appeal. I plan on announcing the top 5 spots starting with number 5 on a daily basis, so keep checking in !

#5: Devil May Cry 3
This game came out in March of 05, I believe I picked it up when I was still working at best buy because they had a really good special on it at the time. I could say that I really wasn't to impressed with the original Devil May Cry and even less impressed with the second. But when I got home I realized that they pretty much re-thought the whole idea and took it on another level.
This game was a prequel to the first 2, your Dante a mercenary for hire that deals with demons,monsters and whatever else. Dante himself is part demon and part human, I could explain it but it would take way to long but its interesting if you want to try the game for yourself. The plot is that his brother Virgil is trying to open the hell gate on earth and its up to Dante to stop him.
The game was developed by Capcom, who has a way to bring a good interesting story to the game but not making it get in the way of the fun. That's whats key, the story never interrupts you while your in your groove. The game is easily one of the craziest action games that you may ever play. The action ridiculously fast and has more button combination's than some fighting games.
At the time the graphics were one of the best. The character models were very stylized and the environments that were mostly in large dungeon were very bright and has a broad color scheme for something that could have been dull. The soundtrack wasn't too bad as well, It fits whatever situation you were in perfectly.
Overall it gets the spot on my list for doing everything right. It has awesome game play that mixes in a good story with plenty of interesting characters to keep you wanting more.

Death Race

Just got out of Death Race about an hour ago and I am trying to remember most of the details of the movie. Its kinda one of those movies that you forget once you leave it. Of course it isn't going to win any awards for anything. Its main goal is to be an mindless entertaining action movie, and at that it succeeds. It has plenty of good driving action combined with a few tidbits of gratuitous violence thrown in to keep it interesting.Jason Statham pretty much brings the level of acting he brings to every movie. That means looking tough but and not saying much but having just enough dialogue to keep the story going. My recommendation would be wait for a matinee ticket or even wait to rent it or catch it some other means of digital delivery. Have fun but don't expect anything ground breaking.

Fast and the Furious

When I was 16 nothing was cooler than this movie. It may be mindless but it did have fast cars and mindless action, the sequel wasn't even bad either. But when the third installment Tokyo Drift came out and did terrible I am sure some movie executive was thinking "we should just get the original cast back together" and that's exactly what they did. If they just stick with the original concept of the movie they cant go wrong. I found the trailer so enjoy

Max Payne

Just after I posted my review of Tropic Thunder I see the trailer for Max Payne on apple trailers. I normally pass on video game to movie adaptions but this one looks like it might actually be something great. I have to say that most of the video game adaptions don't work because the original source material wasn't suited for the big screen in the first place. But Max Payne is different, its dark and moody with undertones and lots of symbolism. It even called itself "A film noir love story" pretty deep for a video game aimed at 16 year olds. Plus it has Mark Wahlberg in it hes doesn't really screw anything up unless they give him dialog. I would suggest you watch it on apple trailers for the best quality but I did find it on youtube so enjoy.

Tropic Thunder

What could I say about this movie that hasn't already been said. Of course its been bashed on for making light of the word retarded. It even has Robert Downey Jr. in black face. But one thing it did not have was a script that was funny and original the entire running time.
Yes I did enjoy the beginning movie trailers, I like the setup to the characters in the beginning, it is even enjoyable to see Tom Cruise and Matthew McConaughey make appearances as movie executives and agents. But this movie falls down when it actually moves on with the story. I liked how it poked fun at the movie industry and it was enjoyable to see a big budget movie like this not take itself too seriously. It knew what it was about and it ran with it for about 45 min but after that it lost its light-heartedness. The idea of movie actors training to be more believable in the roles of soldiers in a Vietnam-era war movie is novel but toward the end of the move it felt like a Vietnam-era war movie. There were times when the movie played out like the very thing it was making fun of. That is when the fun stopped. This movie is really carried be the actors some of the biggest names in Hollywood are here. I particularly liked Robert Downey Jr in this movie. So I cant say this movie is necessarily bad but you couldn't get any closer to bad than Tropic Thunder is.

Why Jason Statham is awesome

Jason is the kinda actor you dont really remember his name but when you see him your like "man this guy was so awesome, he was in .....". His first movies that many people remember him in was Snatch and the Lock,Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. But my personal favorite was the Transporter. Transporter 2 was ok but not as good as the original. If you dont believe me this is the most awesome scene of any action movie ever. That may be an overstatement but I still like it alot.

So just remember if you get in a bind in a train station in the middle of the night just rip your shirt off, pour oil all over your body, and use some bicycle pedals as a means of getting traction. Everyone go see Death Race I bet it will be sweet.

Apple is ruining my life

Will someone tell me why that every time there is an software update for Itunes something just stops working? I was just trying to jog a few laps with my Ipod Touch before it gets too late, so I synced it up with my computer to load a few songs and Itunes freezes up. I already thought Apple was running some kind of scheme but I swear this happens everytime an update is added.

While I was cruising through the library it makes me wonder who actually buys movies on Itunes and watches them on their Ipod/Iphone? I know I dont and most people I know dont either so what is the big draw? I am reminded of a video my boss Eric Clapp showed me while I was working my internship.

.... and that's about how I feel. I sometimes never get around to watching movies because I cant see them in the theater. I somehow feel the movie going experience is degraded if I am not fighting for elbow space with a stranger or listening to the sound of shoes sticking to the floor of a unclean theater. I will probably review my first movie this weekend, Tropic Thunder.

Speaking of reviews I am curious on how to review my movies. Not the content but the format that I will review them. Like 5 stars, 2 thumbs up , etc. Open to any ideas if you got them

First Blog and the Void of any Good Movies This Summer

When I was convinced of creating this blog, it was mainly for me to express my movie critiques and reviews. While I pondered this idea I thought it may be to boring to just focus on movies alone. I figured I would elaborate to just about any other form of media I am interested at the time. Most of the people that know me personally already know my love of movies,music,video games and so on. But for the people that do not know me I have a degree in Radio/Television production and have been associated with video/television production since the day I signed on as contract labor for CBS sports at the age of 16.
I look forward to most summers because of the quality of movies that are coming out in the 3 month window. As a kid I remember all the good movies coming out in the beginning of the summer but now it seems like a few good ones will drop in May then its the end of July or August until i get to check out the movies I really want to see. Why is this ? The middle of the summer seems like a dumping ground for kid movies and romantic comedies.
Unfortunately this nothing spectacular came out other than the super-hero movies. Lets be honest the Dark Knight was as awesome as everyone said it was, but it also came out at just the right time. There certainly wasn't anything else to compete with it in its target demographics. I hope it does make 500 million worldwide something needs to soak up all that disposable income of Americas youth , we all know Mama Mia ! isn't.
This summer seems like it was filled with numerous forgettable movies. Hancock just seemed like a large marketing trick. I was very excited to see it 8 months ago when it was a super-hero spoof, but somewhere the big Willie movie corporation turned it into a mish-mash of emotions of long lost super-heroes that have lost there way. Too bad I really like Jason Bateman , he's funny stuff.
I am somewhat excited about Tropic Thunder. Jack Black and Ben Stiller are getting old but I think Robert Downey Jr. is about to break into the next level of acting. If you don't believe me watch Iron Man, he is nothing short of brilliant. I was really excited about "Henry Poole Is Here". Luke is easily the favorite of the Wilson brothers and generally makes a smarter comedy than most of the other elite comedic guys.
Anyways I am thinking about picking up Madden 09. Very rarely do you see 20 years of one video game franchise. I do get into it everynow and then even though I am not a die hard football fan. I would like to try playing online on Xbox Live. I did come across a very intresting picture online tonight. It was Jack Gyllenhall as the Prince of Persia. Its a video game of the same name if you didnt already now. I didnt like the game and I am sure I wont like the movie.
